Rest in peace Mother Earlean Baskin Hatch who was “blessed and highly favored”🙏🏾.
Mrs. Earlene Burnett Baskin Hatch, 91, of Monroe, NC, departed this life on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Monroe Manor Assisted Living.
Earlean Burnett (Baskin) Hatch of Monroe, North Carolina, claimed her place in the Kingdom of Heaven on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at the age of 91. She was a beloved Mother, Sister, Aunt, Cousin, Mentor, and most of all, Disciple of Christ. She was born May 19, 1933, in Union County, North Carolina, to the late Lester and Geneva (Massey) Baskin, the youngest of five children. Maintaining a desire to build a relationship with the Lord, she accepted Christ as her Savior at the age of 5, a relationship she continued to nurture, build, and share throughout her life.
Taking inspiration from her desire to take care of her ailing grandfather, Earlean had a dream of becoming a Registered Nurse. After graduating Winchester Avenue High School in Monroe, she attended Johnson C. Smith College – Good Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing in Charlotte, NC, where she achieved her dream, earning her degree, and becoming a Registered Nurse in 1954. After College, she relocated to Chicago, where she continued her medical journey. She went to work at Illinois Research Hospital as an Eye, Ear, Nose, and Throat Department Charge Nurse. Also, while in Chicago, she was responsible for developing and teaching a curriculum in Psychiatric Nursing.
Mother Hatch, as she was affectionately known, met and married her late husband, Billie W. Hatch, and together they had a son. In 1976, Mother Hatch and her family moved to Marion Ohio, where she became an integral part of the fabric of the Christian community and community at-large. She was instrumental in the foundation of the Black Heritage Council, as well as many other organizations, programs, committees, and community groups to help the people whom she loved so deeply. She maintained her extraordinary strength and commitment to Christ, spreading his word through many avenues, to include an on-air television program on TV39, entitled “Life of Joy” which she hosted for 16 years. She delighted most in spreading the word of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and to see souls saved by the power of the Holy Spirit of God and Christ Jesus, and did this in many ways, one of which was sharing “Scripture Mints” and taking a minute to speak about the glory of God and building a personal relationship with him.
This is a chronology of what she accomplished, but words cannot fully encompass who she was to so many. She was so much more to so many, more than words on a page could express. While her body may be gone, a piece of her spirit will reside in each and every person with whom she came in contact.
She leaves behind a son, Michael (Brenda), a Goddaughter, Earlden (Jimmy) Williams, a host of nieces, nephews, and an immeasurably grand spiritual family of brothers and sisters in Christ, always remaining Blessed and Highly Favored in the Lord!
